Why does Amasong need money?
While it may seem simple to get a group of women together to make beautiful music, there are costs involved. Rent of rehearsal and performance space, purchase of music, a salary for the Music Director, and extra musicians for concerts are all routine expenses. In the 2008-09 season, we will be expanding to include office space and office equipment, including a computer.
Extraordinary expenses are for projects like producing a fourth CD, developing a state-of-the-art web site, and planning a tour.
Where does the money come from?
Each Amasinger pays a per-semester fee (dues) when possible and pays a fee for her music. The twice-yearly concerts generate revenue, as do extra concerts in our communities. The sale of CDs, the live concert video, "In Concert with Amasong," the documentary, "Amasong Chorus: Singing Out," t-shirts, and other items help with expenses and get the Amasong name out to new and potential fans.
Does that cover it?
Not everything. Amasong depends on faithful donors who show support financially. If every person who has heard Amsong's music on a CD or watched the "Amasong Chorus: Singing Out" documentary gave just a little bit, we would not have to go back to the faithful few. We are constantly expanding the list of those who should have the opportunity to support Amasong's efforts.
